Los Altos to Pacifica Brian led Peter and me from Los Altos up to Pacifica, down the coast to Half Moon Bay then home via Kings Mountain.  Some great views of the Bay Area while we were in Burlingame, San Bruno, Daly City, and Pacifica.  The weather was great; a little cool but not a problem.

This was my 33rd long ride (90+ miles) of the year.

ACTC Ride to Big Basin

ACTC Big Basin  It was a very cold day in San Jose and I was freezing when the six of us took off.   On the first climb I decided I couldn’t keep up with the front three led by David who has crushed me many times before.  Deb caught up with me on Shannon and we rode together until Redwood Gulch when I decided to put in some work.  I then rode the remaining 70 miles on my own.

The temperature finally became tolerable at about mile 50 heading up the last climb.  This was my 32nd big (90+ miles) ride of 2007.  I might have a couple more in me before the New Year. .

Matt K’s TNT Reunion Ride

Matt K reunion Matt K organized a 30-mile ride with his trainees from prior Team in Training Tahoe events.  Today we had Vince, Nick, and Marsha from 2007; Jim from 2006; and Tom and Mason from 2005.  Repeat riders were Phil, Michael, and me from 2006 & 2005.

To get in my mandatory 90-mile minimum I started at the parking lot of El Paseo de Saratoga, met up with the crew at the Alpine Inn for the out and back to Canada and the Pulgas Water Temple, then lunch at the Alpine Inn.  It was great to see the folks again.  I was doing so many long rides I decided not to participate with TNT in 2007 but I did support many of the riders with donations.

This was my 31st 90+ mile ride of the year.

ACTC Double-D Gilroy Hot Springs

Double-D Dec 8, 2007 Every week someone from the Almaden Cycle Touring Club leads at least one long ride in the San Jose area.  This one was led by king and queen of San Jose long distance riding: Deb & David.  I started at home and met up with Double-D and about 20 other club members at the Almaden Coffee Roasting shop.  As we left I decided to stick with the faster group led by David.  It was a great workout and fortunately he slowed down a few times to let the rest of us catch up.

Much of the route was along the same roads covered by the annual Tierra Bella Century held by the club in April.  A nice ride from San Jose through Morgan Hill to Gilroy and back through the reservoirs.  Photos here.  This was my 30th 90+ miler of the year: 26 “centuries” and four 200-milers. .

ACTC Century led by Brian

ACTC route A year ago I joined the Almaden Cycle Touring Club which was an excellent decision since I’ve met a lot of great people among the 1000+ members and ridden many miles with club members.  This ride was no exception as Brian C led eight of the ACTCers from Los Altos into the hills west of Cupertino.  A fun ride on a very cold day in Northern California.

This was my first long ride since Furnace Creek 508 in October making November, 2007 the first month in over 2 1/2 years that I didn’t get in at least one 90+ mile ride.  But, it was a very productive month after all.  I went to AthletiCamps for a week-end of evaluation and training to improve my riding skills.  Bruce Hendler has put me on a program that has already started to help me become  a stronger rider.  I took a few photos at the camp and they’re posted here. .
